both the Medical science and general public.The prevalence of skin Diseases in india is 10 to 12% of total population with Psoriasis and Eczema being major contributors to this.Due to Global warming, high level of pollution,UV light,Unhealthy diet,the skin disease are increasing day by day.

Family Name : Caesalpiniaceae
- Sanskrit:Dadrughna,Mardakara,
- Hindi : Chakvad,Parvad
- English : Ringworm plant, coffee cassia
- Bengali : Chakunde
- Marathi: Nakla
- Gujarati: Kuvadiyo
- Tamil : Tagari
- Telugu : Tangarise
- Arab : Ain-es-suratin
- Persian : Sang saboyah
- Tibetian: Lug mig
Cassia tora is well known herb distributed in india and other tropical countries. It is an annual under shrub and grows in wild wasteland. Leaves,Root and seeeds of cassia tora are uesd for medicinal use.
Use of cassia tora in various skin Disorders as explained in Classical Ayurvedic Text:
- Seed of Chakramarda(Cassia tora), seed of karanja(Millettia pinnata) and Kustha(Saussurea lappa) is mixed together and paste is made with cow urine and applied externally for all types of skin disorders. (Charaka samhita,Sutrasthana 3:13)
- Seed of Chakramarda(Cassia tora) is mixed with Rasanjana(Extract of Berberis aristata) by using kapitha patra rasa (Leaf juice of Limonia acidissima) and used for external application in skin disorders. (Charaka samhita,Sutrasthana,3:12)
- Seed of Chakramarda(Cassia tora),Durva(Cynodond actylon), Haritaki(Terminalia chebula),Rock salt and Tulsi patra(Leaves of Ocimum tenuiflorum) is mixed with butter milk and paste is applied on chronic itching and ring worm infection or Tinea Infection. (Bhaishajya ratnavali,54)
- Seed of Chakramarda(Cassia tora),Shala niryasa(Gum resin of Shorea robusta),Tusha (Terminalia bellerica),Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) and rice gruel is mixed and paste is applied externally for Ringworm infection.
- Seed of Chakramarda (Cassia tora),Vidanga(Embelia ribes), Kustha(Saussurea lappa),Haridra (Curcuma longa),Rock salt and Mustard is mixed with Rice gruel and applied externally for Ringworm infection and other skin Disorders.
- Paste is prepared from Seed of Chakramarda(Cassia tora) or root bark of Moringa oleifera by using juice of Mulaka(Raphanus sativus) and applied externally for Ringworm infection(Bhaishajya ratnavali,54)
- Root powder of Chakramarda(Cassia tora) is mixed with rice gruel and applied externally for Ringworm infection ,Psoriasis and other skin conditions. (Bhaishajya ratnavali,54)
- Seed of Chakramarda(Cassia tora) is mixed with Snuhi kshira(Euphorbia neriifolia) and bhavana(Impregnation) is given for one day and dried,next day it is mixed with cow urine and bhavana is given than it is again dired under sunlight and than applied externally in Psoriasis.(Bhaishajya ratnavali,54)
- Seed of Chakramarda(Cassia tora),Bakuchi(Psoralea corylifolia), seed of Kasmarda(Cassia occidentalis),Haridra (Curcuma longa),Daruharidra(Berberis aristata) and rock salt is mixed together and paste is prepared with rice gruel and applied externally for severe itching. (Bhaishajya ratnavhali,54)
- Seed of Chakramarda (Cassia tora),Vayasya (Solanum nigrum),Kustha(Saussurea lappa)and pippali(Piper longum) each one is taken 12 gram and corse powder is prepared than it is mixed with urine of goat and pills is made,this pills is rubbed with water on Shwitra(Leukoderma). (Bhaishajya ratnavali,54)
- In Ringworm infection,Seed of Chakramarda(Cassia tora),Rock salt,Jagrry and nagkesara(Mesua ferrea) is mixed and paste is prepared by using kapitha patra swarasa(Leaf juice of Limonia acidissima) and it is applied externally. (Sushrut samhita,Chikitsasthana,09)
Like these there are so many other reference are also available in different classical Ayurvedic texts for use of chakramarda(Cassia tora) in skin diesease.Many research activity is going on to prove the action of cassia tora scientifically.
Chakramarda(Cassia tora) is one of the ingredient of the Panchnimbadi choorna and kasisadi taila. It is also a one of the pathya(wholsome food)described in Bhaishajya ratnavali for skin diesease.
