Healthy and Unhealthy Food,Drugs and Habits As Mentioned in Ancient Ayurveda


Introduction in Western Science:-

Poor lifestyle habit such as lack of Physical activity, High alcohol intake,poor Diet,Smoking,Stress,etc are the main contributors for the Development  and progression of preventable chronic disease such as obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiovascular Diseases,Autoimmune disorders, some types of cancer and other metabolic Disorders.such types of Disease called as "NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASE(NCD).


Fact about Non Communicable disease :-
  • Non Communicable disease kills 40 millions people each year which is equivalent to 70% of all death globally.
  • Each year 15 millions people die from NCD between the age of 30-69 years. Over 80% of this premature death occurs in low or middle income country.
  • Cardiovascular Diseases accounts for most of the NCD death or 17.7 millions death annually, Followed by cancer (8.8 millions),respiratory disease(3.9 millions) and diabetes (1.6 millions) 
  • These four groups of Disease account for over 80% of all premature NCD deaths.
  • Tobaco use,Physical inacavity,Harmful use of alcohol and Unhealthy diet are high risk factors for dying due to NCD.

Ayurveda describe Imbalance in Digestion or Digestion process(AgniDusti) as the main root cause of all Diseases the mankind suffer from.

Best food to consume:-

  • Red rice is best among the paddy.
  • Green gram is best among the pulses.
  • Rain water (Collected before it touch the ground) is best among the waters.
  • Rock salt is best among the salts.
  • Jivanti (Leptadenia Reticulate)is best among leaf vegetables or pot herbs.
  • Cow ghee is best among the ghee.
  • Cow milk is best among the milk.

  • Rohita fish (Labeo Rohita) is best among fish.
  • Lava (Common Quail) is best among the birds meat.
  • Sesame oil is best among the vegetables fats.
  • Ginger is best among the Rhizomes.

  • Grapes are best among the fruits.
  • Fat of goat is best among the animal eating tree branch.
  • Fat of white swan is best among the fat of aquatic birds.
  • Fat of chaluki fish (Gangetica Dolphin) is best among the fish fat.

Worst food to consume:-

  • Black gram(Vigna Mungo) is worst among the pulses .

  • Beef is worst among the meat.
  • Salt which is collected from saline soil is worst among the salts.
  • River water is worst among the waters. 
  • Ghee prepared from Sheep milk is worst among the ghee.
  • Meat of Kana kapota (Young dove) is worst among the birds meat.
  • Frog meat is worst among the meat of creature living in holes.
  • Fat of buffalow is worst among the animal fat.
  • Oil of kusumbha(Carthamus Tinctorius) is worst among the vegetables oil.
  • Fat of crocodile(Crocodylus niloticus) is worst among the fat of aquatic animals.
  • Fat of sparrow is worst among the fat of birds.
  • Potato is worst among the Rhizomes.

  • Fat of elephant is worst among the animal eating tree branch.


Best food item and herbs with its Action:-
  • Milk is best in Enlivening and in giving good strength and power.
  • Meat is best nourishing food to consume.
  • Chicken is best for improving immunity and strength.
  • Sheep ghee best in damaging the heart.
  • Semen of crocodile is best Aphrodisiac.
  • Salt is best in enhancing the taste.
  • Sour items is best cardiac tonic.
  • Buffalow milk is best in inducing sleep.
  • Half formed curds best for causing obstruction in body channels and circulation.
  • Goat milk best in  improving the brest milk, Blood production and best for bleeding disorders and relives the emaciation.
  • Wheat(Triticum Aestivum) is best in causing emaciation.
  • Sugarcane best in producing Diuretics effect.

  • Horse gram(Macrotyloma uniforum) is best in causing Acidity or gastritis.
  • Barley is best which increases the bulk of feces.
  • Fruit of madan(Randia Dumetorum) is best causing emesis.
  • Apmarga(Achyrantes Aspera) is best for removing the Dosha(impurity) from head.

  • Amalaki (Embilica officinalis) is best herb causing Rejuvenation.
  • Pippali mula (Root of pipper nigrum) is best in Carmination,Relieving bloating and constipation and promoting the good Digestion.
  • Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica) is best in curing piles and pain colic.
  • Pushkar mula (Inula racemosa) is best in curing chest pain,cough,asthma and hiccup.
  • Khadira(Acacia catechu) is best in curing skin Disorders.
  • Priyangu (callicarpa macrophy) is best in curing acute heavy bleeding.
  • Bark of kutaj (holarrhena antidysenterica) is best in causing drying and absorbing effect.
  • Vidarigandha (Desmodium gangiticum) is best to cause balance in tridosha.

  • Chandana (sandalwood) is best in reliving burning sensation.

  • Continues suppression of ejeculation is best for causing impotency.
  • Worry is best in causing emaciation.
  • Having food with all taste is best to promote immunity and strength.
  • Having food  with only one taste is best in cauing debility.
  • Having nutritional food is best for causing sleep.
  • Having common minds is best way to achieve conception.
  • Practicing celibacy is best in  causing Longevity.
